We are looking for a CAD Technician to join our growing multidisciplinary team delivering projects across the rail and water sectors.

This role is ideal for someone with around 2–3 years’ CAD experience who is looking to further develop their technical skills while working on a wide variety of infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with Design Engineers and the wider design team to produce high-quality engineering drawings and models that support the successful delivery of our projects.

The Role

As a CAD Technician, you will play an important role in the delivery of engineering design by producing accurate drawings and models to support project teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing engineering drawings and models in accordance with project programmes and budgets.
  • Working closely with Design Engineers to prepare and develop design drawings throughout all project stages.
  • Producing drawings that comply with company CAD standards, client requirements and industry best practice.
  • Using standard details, templates and design standards to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Making drawing revisions following design reviews and coordinating changes where required.
  • Working in accordance with established design processes and quality procedures.
  • Accurately recording time spent on tasks and assisting with estimating design effort where appropriate.
  • Using ProjectWise and other document management systems to manage project documentation.
  • Supporting continuous improvement within the design team by maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.
  • Contributing positively to a collaborative and multidisciplinary working environment.

About You

We’re looking for someone with a solid grounding in CAD who is keen to continue developing their technical capability and build a long-term career within engineering design.

Essential

  • Around 2–3 years’ CAD experience within an engineering consultancy or infrastructure environment.
  • Experience using MicroStation (or similar CAD software with the ability to transition to AutoCAD and Civils 3D).
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings and drafting principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering information and produce accurate technical drawings.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

Desirable

  • HNC or higher qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience within the rail, water or utilities sectors.
  • Experience using ProjectWise or similar document management software.
  • Knowledge of relevant CAD standards and engineering drawing practices.
  • Experience producing reinforcement drawings or bar bending schedules.
  • Exposure to 3D modelling software.

Location & Working Arrangements

Our team is  based from our Manchester office.

Our office is located close to Old Trafford, with free on-site parking and excellent transport links, including bus and tram stops within a 10-minute walk. The surrounding area offers a variety of cafés, restaurants and shops.
