We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with around 18 months to 2 years’ experience who is looking to further develop their commercial skills within a supportive engineering environment.

Working closely with Project Managers, Design Engineers and our commercial team, you will play a key role in ensuring projects are commercially managed from inception through to completion. You will assist in maximising project profitability, managing commercial risk and maintaining strong relationships with clients and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

As a Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing, submitting and tracking applications for payment.
  • Monitoring certificates, invoices and payment schedules.
  • Raising Early Warning Notices (EWNs) and managing change requests and project variations.
  • Assisting with the preparation of project estimates and cost forecasts.
  • Producing and presenting monthly Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Monitoring project costs, purchase orders and commercial performance.
  • Reviewing project contracts and ensuring contractual obligations are understood and met.
  • Assisting with the review of contract terms and conditions.
  • Preparing subcontract documentation and supporting subcontract management.
  • Understanding project programmes and monitoring commercial progress against delivery.
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with client commercial teams.
  • Supporting the wider commercial team with day-to-day quantity surveying activities.
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is eager to develop their career and enjoys working collaboratively within a fast-paced project environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Around 18 months’ experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction, infrastructure or rail sector.
  • A degree (or equivalent qualification) in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • A good understanding of commercial processes and project cost management.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to build relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.Desirable:
  • Approximately two years’ Quantity Surveying experience.
  • Experience working with a variety of contract forms.
  • Knowledge of contract change management and variation processes.
  • Experience preparing estimates and cost plans.
  • Familiarity with payment applications and certification processes.
  • Experience supporting commercial negotiations.
